Jay Haze (aka the Architect / Dub Surgeon) – recent activity update:

If the past twelve months can serve as any indication, Jay Haze will be one busy man this year. Simultaneously pushing the boundaries as dj, producer and labelmanager, Haze has been advancing full speed on all fronts.

DJing: Since last Summer, his famed three deck Final Scratch performances have tantalized crowds in France, Slovakia, Czech, Switzerland, the UK, Spain, Denmark, Poland, and of course the Netherlands where until recently he was based. German audiences craving his trademark glitchy subbass-killer style will finally have the opportunity to get their fix as Haze has recently moved to Berlin. Not content with covering Europe, though, Haze is equally at home in far away places – he set out on a three week long tour of Japan last November, playing in Tokyo (Milk+Warszawa), Osaka (Rockets), Hokkaido (Green), Tokushima (Underground), Fukushima (as soon as), and Yamanashi (number 2).

Production: While always focussed on releasing on Contexterrior Media’s inhouse labels Contexterrior, Future Dub, and Tuning Spork – as well as the associated netlabel Textone – Haze recently expanded his international exposure through a number of publications on other imprints. Exclusive tracks were featured on compilations by Swedish label 24Hz, Portable’s Süd Electronics and Out to Lunch. Additionally, EPs are planned on Süd and Richie Hawtin’s M_nus.
On his own labels, Haze will share the spotlight with other renowned artists in a series of split productions that will hit the market this spring: Contexterrior #06, Peter F. Spiess vs. Jay Haze; Future Dub #05, Dub Surgeon vs. Dean DeCosta; Tuning Spork #10, with the Architect, Rene Breitbarth, Tomas Jirku and Hakan Lidbo.

Labels: The ever-mounting buzz around Contexterrior Media output has lead to increased press coverage, with interviews in De:Bug and Groove magazine. The material is now constantly jocked by some of the biggest names in the game, including Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos. Underscoring the ambition to release nothing but top-notch quality, Haze has forged partnerships with a crew of extremely talented artists. Expect released and collaborations from the likes of Hakan Lidbo and Mikael Stavöstrand, among others.
